Members of the Akwa Ibom State National Assembly caucus across all political parties on Wednesday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to cancel Saturday’s governorship election in the state. They asked INEC to reschedule another exercise as no election took place in the state, but writing of results. Briefing newsmen in company with other members, Senator Aloysius Etuk expressed dissatisfaction with the just-concluded governorship election in the state. Etuk explained that the election was characterised by violence and irregularities. According to him, the election in Akwa Ibom State was the most traumatising in Nigeria. Also speaking, Senator Ita Enag said there was no election in the state because there was no result sheets in the most of the polling boots. Enang said the people of the state prepared for the election but the state Governor, Barrister Godswill Akpabio, prepared for war. He said the election was marred by irregularities. He said there was in fact nothing like election in the state, but just results writing. Enang urged the Police to disarm people in possession of arms illegally. He said it was such arms that were used for the election. He revealed that no card reader was used during the election, adding that many people wore police and military uniforms to unleash terror on the people of the state.
