Police IG Warns Against Use Of Escorts At Voting Centres​

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has cautioned police officers to desist from accompanying their principals to polling booths and collation centres during the forthcoming gubernatorial and house of representatives election on Saturday.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu​,​ said all security details attached to political office holders are to desist from accompanying their principals to polling booths and collation centres during the election.
Mr. Ojukwu said only personnel specifically assigned for election duties must be seen within the election designated places.
The police said armed Police escort seen escorting politicians to the polling units would be arrested and
​made to face ​disciplinary action.
The police chief, commending personnel and other law enforcement agencies for the successful conduct of the March 28 Presidential election, called for similar cooperation between citizens and the police in the April 11 election.
He further urged citizens to remain calm and confident in the ability of the police and other security agencies to discharge their constitutional mandate of ensuring the safety of lives and property, and in protecting the democratic rights and freedoms of the citizens.
