ELECTION - IG of Police Orders Restriction Of Movements On Election Day's.

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered restriction of vehicular movement across Nigeria on election days – March 28 and April 11.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the police chief’s order is part of efforts to ensure adequate security in the forthcoming general elections across all the country.
Mr. Ojukwu said the restrictions on each of the days will start at 8 a.m. and remain in force till 5 p.m.
He said the total restriction of movements order applies to all vehicles except Ambulances, fire service trucks and others on essential duties.
He warned travellers who intend to use roads at these times to reschedule their trips.
Mr. Ojukwu said the IGP regrets the inconveniences motorists may encounter due to the restrictions.
Mr. Abba appealed for the understanding and cooperation of the entire citizenry, saying the restriction is in the nation’s interest.
He also assured of adequate security logistics.
He said security officials have been strategically deployed to achieve a most conducive electioneering atmosphere.
Mr. Ojukwu said police officers who would be on duty for election duty have been properly trained, briefed and sensitized on their roles as stipulated in the Electoral Act.
He admonished police officers to be professional, non-partisan, but firm in their approach and relation to the public.
He enjoined citizens to remain vigilant and report all suspicious movements or dealings to the appropriate Police authority in their localities.
