He said this was too check likely violence during the celebration of the emergence of Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate
Following the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the president-elect of Nigeria, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has imposed a curfew on the state. Fayose had on Tuesday imposed a 7:30pm to 6am curfew on the state. He said this was too check likely violence during the celebration of the emergence of Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate. He asked those wishing to celebrate the victory of Buhari to do so within the confines of their homes. But the APC in the state has kicked against the order by the governor. The party told the people of the state to defy the order. The party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, also congratulated Nigerians on their peaceful conduct during the election. Olatubosun said despite alleged provocation, inducements, harassments and infractions on their rights by the force of state powers to vote the PDP’s candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, APC members, supporters and the people of the state still managed to record remarkable votes. He said this “shocked PDP leaders”. The APC urged the police not to allow themselves to be used as anti-democratic agents to unleash terror on Ekiti State people and APC members who might want to celebrate the victory of the party at the poll. Olatubosun said Buhari’s victory marked the beginning of sanity in the polity “wracked by lawlessness, corruption and impunity”. He added: “It is not only victory for Ekiti people, but victory for Nigerians for a successful transition from one civilian administration to another. Nigerians from all walks of life are celebrating this special moment, Ekiti cannot be an exception. We are not mourning but celebrating. It is sheer wickedness on the part of Governpor Fayose to want to prevent this celebration.” Olatubosun said the victory of Buhari is a vote for transparency, performance and building of hope among Nigerians. He said Buhari would take Nigeria back to her deserved position in the comity of nations. Olatubosun said the APC-led Federal Government would implement its life-lifting programmes that would give Nigerians hope again. He said: “Signal is being sent to the peddlers of impunity that the end has come for their lawless acts. Corruption will have no place in the APC-led Federal Government. Our government will give justice, including economic justice, to Nigerians. “Our party has asked its members to defy order barring them from celebrating their party’s victory because it is their legal right. We are not fighting; we are celebrating. “Fayose should remember that he urged Ekiti people to defy Governor Kayode Fayemi curfew order when there was apparent threat to peace in the state. This time, there is no threat to peace and so there is no authority that can bar Ekiti people from celebrating our liberty and this victory. End of impunity has come. “All democratic institutions will operate unfettered within the ambit of the law. On this note, we urge our 19 members in the House of Assembly to return to work immediately and take control of the affairs because a new era of law and order has returned.”
