The lawmaker representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has congratulated the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, on his victory in the presidential poll. Abe, who stated this in his reaction to Buhari’s emergence as president-elect, described the victory as a manifestation of the change the people yearned for. The senator saluted those he called fathers of Nigeria’s march to greatness, among them Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, for their resilience in the face of unwarranted persecutions, intimidation and oppression. He said posterity will remember their doggedness, tenacity and perseverance in the quest for a secure future for the country. Abe disclosed that with the Peoples’ General at the helm of affairs, having been overwhelmingly chosen by Nigerians despite the billions of naira expended on smear campaigns against him, the country will now commence its realignment to the path of progress. He urged Nigerians to see the victory anchored on their votes as victory for democracy, saying finally impunity, corruption and insecurity will now be things of the past. “A new chapter has been open in the history of our country; we are now sure of a stable economy and true democracy; Nigeria now has a future; we have our country back,” the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) declared. The gleeful senator, who stood for minutes thanking God for His mercies on Nigeria and Rivers State in particular amid chorusing of “I have a God who never fails”, described General Buhari’s victory in Nigeria’s political history as historic. In this development, “there is no victor and no vanquish”, he said, urging Nigerians to support General Muhammadu Buhari as his administration will benefit the entire country.
