Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State on Wednesday congratulated the President-Elect, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari for winning Saturday’s presidential election.
Yuguda, who applauded Buhari at a news conference in Bauchi, also congratulated all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won the National Assembly elections in the state.“I wish to extend and convey my sincere congratulation to Gen Muhammadu Buhari and all the APC candidates from Bauchi state who won the national assembly elections to represent the state in the national assembly.
“I wish to especially congratulate my younger brother Malam Ali Wakili, who won the Bauchi South Senatorial seat for which I was a contestant.“
He advised all contestants that lost in the national assembly election against litigation, but submit to the will of Allah and pray for the success of those who won.
He advised politicians to emulate the exemplary leadership of the president-elect.
“In contest there must be a winner and a looser. The losers following INEC announcement of result must submit to the will of Allah, rather than proceeding for litigations, which would be bad luck for our polity.
“All those who lost their seat from all other parties must submit to the will of Allah and pray for the success of those who won. Another chance will present itself.
“We must learn to be (our) brothers’ keepers and understand that there should not be any bitterness in politics, especially if you lose election.
“We must learn from the matured, exemplary and Godly politics of the President-Elect, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, who since 2003 has been contesting the presidency and had in between, never shown bitterness or hatred to his opponent, until Allah finally gave him the chance to rule our dear nation Nigeria.“
The governor called on all those who emerged victorious in the state to prepare for the task ahead and to properly represent their constituencies at the national assembly.
He urged them to also support the next governor of the state irrespective of his party affiliation.
He said: “This is the only way we can achieve the desired goal of bringing peace and development and address the current insecurity, abject poverty, youth unemployment and corruption in our state.
“It would also help in addressing the politics of hatred, rancour, thuggery among our youths and politicians.“
Yuguda thanked the people of the state for the overwhelming support given him in 2007 and 2011 when he contested for the governorship of the state and won.
He said: “I wish to convey my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the entire citizens of Bauchi state for the love affection and support they gave me in 2007 and 2011 governorship elections.
“This would remain indelible in my heart and memory. May Allah reward them by bringing in good leadership that would continue to address developmental issues in the state.
“I have done my best in protecting lives and property, and to the best of my ability, I have fulfilled must of my camping promises.
“Especially in security for lives and property, health, education, rural development, agriculture, transportation and tourism, youth and women empowerment, welfare to the civil services, provision of clean and potable water and upgrade of infrastructure, just to mention a few.“
