FG Has Not Abandoned Search For Chibok Girls, Says Omeri

The Federal Government on Wednesday said the search for the over 200 abducted Chibok school girls in Borno State by the Boko Haram insurgent group has not been jettisoned. The spokesman for the National Information Centre and Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mike Omeri, stated this at a joint media briefing in Abuja. Omeri pointed out that the search for 200 abducted Chibok girls was still on. The DG of the NOA stated this while fielding questions on the fate of more than 200 girls that were abducted last year by Boko haram insurgents. According to him: “The search for the Chibok girls continues and that is why even with the capture of Bama and the rest, the military has not retreated. “Again, until it is concluded, we cannot believe speculative conclusions. “The assurance that I give you is that everywhere is being combed.” Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Department of State Services, Marylyn Ogar, has revealed that appropriate action has been taken to tackle the threat issued to the Igbo by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu. The Oba had at a meeting on Sunday with honorary Eze Ndi Igbos in Lagos threatened the Igbo community that they will be pushed inside the lagoon if they work against his candidate, Akinwumi Ambode, who is the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Saturday’s election. While fielding questions at the National Information Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, the DSS spokesperson said the service was handling the matter. Ogar however did not give details of the action the DSS had taken to douse tension on the threat that had been widely condemned. She merely said: “We are taking appropriate action. “The service had once again warned all Nigerians not to fan the embers of discord within the country. “If the presidential election had come and gone successfully, we wouldn’t want people to begin to whip up sentiments unnecessarily. “So we are handling it.” Speaking on the forthcoming elections on Saturday, Omeri said everything was being done to ensure the safety of Nigerians, especially those living in vulnerable areas, as they go to cast their votes.
