Police Investigates Baby’s Abandonment In Refuse Dump Site

The police in Nasarawa State said on Sunday they were investigating the cause of the abandonment of a baby in a refuse dump site on Al-makura Street, Lafia. DSP Ismaila Umar-Noman, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said the police had immediately sent his men to the scene of the event for full investigation. An eyewitness, Hajiya Hajara Musa-Tanko, told the News Agency of Nigeria that a new baby was found in the refuse dump site in the early hours of Sunday. Musa-Tanko said she was in her house at about 10pm on Saturday when she heard some movement in the refuse dump site. She said further that she received a phone call from a “Good Samaritan” later to inform her that a new born baby-girl was found in the site. “We went to the site and discovered that there was an abandoned new baby,” she said. Musa-Tanko appealed to security agents to investigate the incident and to bring perpetrators of such inhuman acts to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
