Soldiers Storm Ado-Ekiti, Harass Residents

Scores of soldiers in about 12 vehicles stormed Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Sunday evening. They allegedly harassed. The state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had earlier on Sunday alleged a planned invasion of the state by the All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the state House of Assembly. The governor had alleged that the lawmakers were leading thugs to the House of Assembly to impeach him. The soldiers, allegedly from the brigade commanded by General Aliyu Momah, were on Sunday night on the streets in the state capital allegedly harassing residents. Brigadier-General Momah was one of those whose voices were heard on tape allegedly planning how to rig last year’s state governorship election in Fayose’s favour in what is now known as Ekitigate. Earlier in the day, the governor had made a televised speech on state media alleging invasion of the state by APC lawmakers. He urged workers, motorbike operators and drivers to resist the APC lawmakers’ attempt to sit over his impeachment. On Sunday night, it was alleged that very close to the Governor’s Office, Fayose’s convoy made a stop-over to address the troops. Residents were seen fleeing areas where the soldiers were operating.
