Elections: US Urges Dissatisfied Candidates To Seek Redress Legitimately

The United States of America on Monday urged those dissatisfied with the conduct of the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections to seek redress through legitimate means. This was contained in statement issued by the US embassy in Abuja. The statement said: “We have seen the reports of violence and alleged irregularities, particularly in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states. “We call on those dissatisfied to pursue their grievances peacefully in the judicial arena. “We regret any loss of life and destruction of property.” The statement said it the US had observed that the April 11 polls were improvement on the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections. While congratulating Nigerians on the success of the elections, the US urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to consolidate on the achievements. It said: “The United States Embassy in Nigeria congratulates the people of Nigeria and the Independent National Electoral Commission for an electoral process on April 11, 2015. “The process generally went well across the country and built on the success of the March 28 polling process.” The US commended President Goodluck Jonathan and President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, for their contribution toward the peaceful conduct of the elections.
