Club World Cup: Realmadrid Ready to rock the world

Ready to rock the world

PABLO POLO12/16/2014
Real Madridenter the Club World Cup fray hoping to give Cruz Azul the blues and blaze the trail for a golden end to a sparkling year.
Glory in Morocco and the crown of world champions would be the perfect way to cap an unforgettable run that has seen 'Los Blancos' triumph in the Spanish Cup, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup over the last eight months.
There is no margin for error and Real are approaching the tournament as if there were two finals, the first of which pits them against plucky Mexican opposition. What's more, the mood in the camp was affected a smidgeon by having to fly to and stay in Rabat when the semi-final was moved to Marrakech.
This should be a mere footnote for a side that headed into the tournament boasting a scary streak of 20 consecutive victories. What better stage could there be to make it 21?
Boosted by the weekend's league results, which left daylight between 'Los Blancos' and their closest challengers, now the whole squad are fully focused on the bid for a trophy that would mean something extra-special for a number of players and even the coach. For Sergio Ramos and Álvaro Arbeloa, it would complete their silverware collection; Toni Kroos would become a double world champion in a single year; Carlo Ancelotti would emulate Pep Guardiola by winning the competition with two different clubs, while Iker Casillas would finally taste glory in a tournament he went to as a teenage substitute 14 years ago. What's more, winning the title would cap the club's inexorable rise since September 2013 in fitting fashion.
