Football - The Santiago Bernabéu: a winter wonderland

The Santiago Bernabéu: a winter wonderlandThe Santiago Bernabéu has been a boiling pot of people over the festive period. While final figures have not yet been officially confirmed, the number of people to have visited the stadium in 2014 is thought to be in the region of a million.

The club is hoping to set a new record for visitors, partly thanks to the refurbishment of the museum last May, which coincided with the club finally achieving the 'Décima', and has seen a 35% increase in visits over the end of 2014 in comparison to the previous year.
In 2013, the Bernabéu Tour hosted some 820,000 fans, making it the fourth most visited museum in Madrid, behind the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, which, according to figures released by the Ministry for Culture, was visited by 944,827 people. The Reina Sofía art museum was the most visited in 2013, with some 3,184,640 guests crossing its threshold.
For 2014, the Bernabéu Tour could climb a notch in this particular ranking within Madrid. It seems that winning the club's tenth Champions League title and the signing of James Rodríguez have got the fans flocking to visit the stadium this season.
The stadium's adidas shop, meanwhile, is the brand's most profitable store in the world. The prestigious German kit maker and Real Madrid have been partners since 1998. The latest agreement to extend their relationship took place in April 2012 and runs until 2020, bringing the club €40 million a season from the sponsorship deal.
